Leaving a Legacy
MAKING A DIFFERENCE - LEAVING A LAST GIFT TO ROSEMERE
We all like to feel that our lives are worthwhile and that we will leave a lasting mark on the world when our time comes. By deciding to leave a legacy to the Rosemere Cancer Foundation you can be sure that you have made a difference to the care of cancer patients throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria.
All the projects funded by the Rosemere Cancer Foundation are of direct benefit to the thousands of cancer patients who go through treatment in this part of the North West each year.
How do I go about making a will?
The Rosemere Cancer Foundation would strongly advise anyone making a will to seek professional advice from a solicitor. Making a will is usually a simple procedure which need not be expensive and could save your beneficiaries a lot of heartache as the slightest mistake in drawing up a ‘home made’ document could make it invalid.
- ask a number of solicitors for a free estimate and compare their charges
- keep costs low by being prepared. Think carefully about you assets (what you own) and your liabilities (what you owe) and who you wish to benefit in the event of your death.
- making a gift to charity is tax free and may help reduce the amount of inheritance tax liable on your estate
Discuss your wishes with your chosen solicitor who will then be able to advise you and draw up your will to reflect your wishes.
How do I leave something to Rosemere?
There are a number of ways you can leave a last gift to the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
You can choose to leave the residue of your estate, in other words the sum that is left after all other bequests and costs have been paid.
You may decide to leave a specific sum of money or bequeath an item, property or shares which can be sold by Rosemere to release capital.
Or you can arrange lifetime security for a loved one by giving the a life interest in your property which will then pass to Rosemere on their death.
Your solicitor will advise which option is best for you. Once you have made your decision, the solicitor will need the following details:
Rosemere Cancer Foundation
Radiotherapy Department
Royal Preston Hospital
Sharoe Green Lane
Preston PR2 9HT
Registered Charity Number 1051194
Should you or your solicitor require any further information please call 01772 523454 or email sue.thompson@lthtr.nhs.uk
