Major Initiatives

major intiatives

The Rosemere Cancer Foundation aims to work with each of the four NHS Trusts on major initiatives as the focus for local fundraising to the value of around £100,000.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - Rosemere is currently raising funds for the completion of a dedicated Cancer Information Bureau at the heart of the Rosemere Cancer Centre adjacent to the Radiotherapy Department. The Foundation is half way towards raising £100,000 for the building, equipping and start up staffing costs of the facility which will provide a wide range of information for cancer patients and their carers accessible in whatever format suits them best. It is hoped that the project will be complete by the end of February and that the service can commence as soon as the staff are appointed.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust - The Grizedale Unit recently opened at Westmorland General Hospital to provide a chemotherapy service for local patients for the first time, drastically reducing travel times in the height of the season for cancer patients from Kendal, Windermere and Ambleside. The Rosemere Cancer Foundation provided £100,000 for therefurbishment of Ward 8 to provide an aesthetically pleasing environment in which to deliver the service. The Unit is much appreciated by its first patients and we wait to see what our next challenge in Morecambe Bay will be.

Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - The Rosemere Cancer Foundation is looking to raise £90,000 to fund a 12 month pilot community chemotherapy service for the residents of Fleetwood and the surrounding area, delivering routine chemotherapy regimes to patients within a GP practice setting through an oncology nurse led facility. If successful, this could form the model for the delivery of treatment closer to home for patients in many other areas of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Network.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust - The Rosemere Cancer Foundation is looking forward to raising funds for a major project to be announced in the near future.
