Walk in the Dark 2012
Event Date: Saturday, 21 April 2012
The rain held off on Saturday for Rosemere's annual Walk in the Dark which attracted more entries than ever before, many in fancy dress. The event was supported by the Furness Building Society and Rosemere Chairman, Dennis Benson, saw everyone off from Chorley Hospital on their 13 mile trek back to Royal Preston where bacon butties awaited! Our thanks to all our walkers, particularly those who travelled quite a way to join us from Lancaster, Blackpool and Burnley. Well done to our youngest walker, Will Harfield aged 11, who was one of 17 entries from traders on Darwen Market and who made it to the finish in under 4 hours.
The Walk in the Dark takes place at the same time every year and raises over £10,000 for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation. If you would like to take part in 2013 please email info@rosemere.org.uk">info@rosemere.org.uk and we will make sure you get an entry form as soon as they are available.
Valentine Tour of Morecambe Bay with The Bay
Event Date: Wednesday, 15 February 2012
On Valentine’s Day Anne Sweeney, the Rosemere Area Fundraising Co-ordinator for Morecambe Bay, accompanied Danny Matthews, The Bay Breakfast Presenter on a Tour of some towns in the Morecambe Bay area.
Together they were visiting and talking to people in the community and to those who had put on events in support of the Rosemere Valentine’s Appeal.
It gave Anne the opportunity to inform those in the Bay area that are supported by the work of Rosemere and also to make them aware that when they go to Preston for their treatment they are actually being treated at the Rosemere Cancer Centre.
Their itinerary for the day took them to
The Anchor Home at Dalton
Crook Motor Cycles at Barrow
Co-op Funeral Services at Barrow
Eric Morecambe Home, Morecambe
And at each one of these something had been organised in support of the Valentine’s Appeal. It was a wonderful opportunity for Anne to meet so many people and to help them to put Rosemere on the map.
A big thank you to all who have supported the Valentine’s Appeal and especially for the support of Danny and The Bay for featuring Rosemere on Valentine’s Day.

Cross Bay Walk - Morecambe Bay
Event Date: Sunday, 21 August 2011
This is a superb opportunity to take part in this beautiful and exhilarating walk and perfect for all the family on a summer’s day. If you have never done the ‘Cross Bay Walk’ from Arnside to Kent`s Bank this is a must – even if you have, it is well worth repeating!
The walk takes place at 10.00 am on Sunday 21 August and is guided by the ‘Queen’s Sand Pilot’, Cedric Robinson, who has guided many famous people on this walk including the Duke of Edinburgh, Judith Chalmers and Melvyn Bragg. He is an expert on the changing way the water twists and turns through the water channels in Morcambe Bay.
The walk itself is 7-8 miles long and is suitable for children and dogs. Support vehicles will accompany the walkers should anyone feel too tired or unable to complete the walk. Afterwards complimentary refreshments will be served at the Abbot’s Hall Hotel, close to the finishing point.
If you would like to take part just download the entry form by clicking on the link below, return it to Rosemere and put the date in your diary!

Rosemere represents at the Windermere Air Festival
Event Date: Tuesday, 26 July 2011
Rosemere was delighted to be represented in the ‘Charity Tent’ at the Windermere Air Festival this year. Windermere is close to the northern edge of the Rosemere area and what a beautiful day is was to be in this beautiful part of the ‘patch’.
Anne Sweeney with volunteers Geoff Cater, Mike Kemplay and John Hodgson manned the stand over the two days and were delighted to talk to so many people – some who lived in theSouth Lakes and some on holiday from as far afield as Sussex, Kent, Glasgow and Holland! It was a valuable opportunity to tell people of the work of the Rosemere Cancer Foundation in an area where the name is less known, but yet is the ‘local’ cancer charity in this area. It was also good to meet those who did know Rosemere for a variety of reasons and to exchange stories.

The Year 11 pupils at Kirbie Kendal School recently held their Leavers’ Prom – in style! Not only did they look fabulous dressed up for the evening but they also raised money for Rosemere.
They were able to buy CDs of photos taken on the evening as a memento of their Prom. A minimum donation of £1 was suggested and altogether they raised nearly £300. Thanks to Geoff Cater for organising this and to the Year 11 pupils for their generosity.

This year Rosemere will have a stand at the Windermere Air Show at Bowness, which takes place on Sat/Sun, 23/24 July. This really will be an exciting event providing entertainment for all the family.
It is located at the Glebe, on the shores of Lake Windermere, providing a fabulous backdrop for the Air Display which includes a display by the Red Arrows as well as many others. In addition to the activity in the sky there will be much happening at ground level, too, with lots of activities for all the family.

We are trying to make more people aware that Rosemere is the cancer charity providing quality cancer support throughout the South Lakes and Lancashire. We hope to see lots of Rosemere supporters on the day – look out for the stand, and come and say hello to us.

Valentines Carol Concert
Event Date: Saturday, 12 February 2011
Over 250 people celebrated Valentine's Day with Rosemere at a Candlelight Concert in Blackburn Cathedral. Guests were treated to a wonderful programme of music from Rossendale Male Voice Choir, Rossendale Ladies Choir and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School Swing Band with solo spots from 13 year old Kennedy Jane Hill who sang pieces from the Little Shop of Horrors and Les Miserables, and 16 year old Mary Ann Wootton who played extracts from the Sound of Music on the organ.
The evening was compered by John Gillmore from BBC Radio Lancashire who encouraged everyone to light the candles on cupcakes specially made for the occasion by the Hilton Hotel in Blackpool during a period of reflection part way through the evening. Very many thanks to everyone who supported the event and to the staff and volunteers at the Cathedral who worked so hard to make the evening a success.
Street collections took place right across the region on Saturday 12th February thanks to an army of volunteers who braved the cold for Rosemere. Many thanks to everyone who helped out - we will try to secure warmer pitches for next year!
